Interesting – and sad – to read on the government news website that koi carp in Norfolk are afflicted with Koi Herpesvirus. The graceful fish, otherwise known as Cyrinus Carpio, obviously don’t pay attention to government health warnings…
While there are no implications for humans, this is very serious for our watery friends of Oakwood Park Lakes. The news is especially worrying for koi lovers (pun only slightly intended). I must say though it gently amused me on the basis of “the things you can find when you search through the latest government announcements.”
Did you even know that there is a Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) and that it sits (or swims) within the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science?
This, in turn, comes under DEFRA – the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. How many people work at the FHI? What do they do all day when there isn’t a Koi crisis? Do they go to the office wearing wetsuits? And could they send one out to check over my local chippie?
If you need help on any government matters, feel free to get in touch. Please don’t be koi… (Coy, get it?? Well it made us laugh in the office!)
